在中文论坛的各个地方都能看到有不少人担心ipod的电池问题，作为一个ipod爱好者（尽管只拥有了不到一星期）实在不能忍受！不管是恶意诽谤ipod的还是出于无知胡说的，我要在这里做一个集中的回答！省得以后还看到这种无聊的问题，烦死我了！

To get the most out of one charge of the iPod battery, install the latest iPod software, use the Hold switch, and keep iPod at room temperature.
Update to the latest software
Make sure you have installed the latest version of iPod software. iPod Software 1.2.6 or later addresses potential battery management issues. Make sure you have installed this or a later version of iPod software.
Use the Hold switch
Set the Hold switch on iPod and its remote to the Hold position whenever you are not using iPod. This will keep iPod from accidentally waking from sleep and playing songs if its buttons are pressed while in a pocket or bag. For more information see
Keep iPod at room temperature
iPod's battery works best when iPod is at room temperature, generally near 20° C, but you can use iPod anywhere between 0° to 35° C (about 32° to 95° F). If you have left iPod in the cold, let it warm up to room temperature before waking it from sleep. Otherwise, a low-battery icon may appear, and iPod will not wake from sleep. If after warming up, iPod does not wake from sleep, connect the power adapter, and press the Menu and Play/Pause buttons until the Apple logo appears.
Additional tips
Charging
iPod fast-charges the battery to 80 percent of capacity in an hour. However, it can take 3 hours to fully recharge the battery. Even in sleep, iPod uses a small amount of current, and the battery slowly empties. Stored at optimal storage temperature, the battery will empty in 14 to 28 days.
Pause iPod when unattended
If you leave iPod unattended, press Play/Pause to pause the song. If left playing, iPod will continue to play songs until the battery is drained--particularly if the repeat setting is set to One or All.
Backlighting
Backlighting can use a lot of battery power. If you don't need to use backlighting, turn it off. Choose Settings > Backlight Timer > Off.
Equalizer
Turning off the Equalizer will extend your battery life. If you don't wish to use the Equalizer turn it off. To turn off the Equalizer, choose Settings > EQ > Off
Avoid changing tracks
Avoid changing tracks by pressing the Previous/Rewind or Next/Fast-forward buttons. iPod uses memory (a cache) to open enough songs for you to listen to without constantly accessing the hard drive. This saves battery power. If you frequently change tracks by pressing the Previous or Next buttons, the cache has to turn on the hard drive to open the songs. This uses a lot of battery power.
Use compressed songs
iPod's cache works best with songs of average file sizes (less than 9 M. If your audio files are large, or uncompressed (including AIFF format), you may want to compress them, or use a different compression method, such as MP3 or AAC, when importing them into iTunes. Also, consider breaking very long songs or tracks into shorter tracks that have smaller file sizes.

2、使用hold开关。这个大家都应该知道了，防止因为不小心碰到而打开或者误操作ipod。
3、保持适当的温度，当在20度时电池会有最佳表现，当在很寒冷的时候电池电量会有所下降。我在郑州还好，东北的朋友这个问题比较大。：）这个问题在底下会有更加深入地讨论。
使用窍门：
1、当ipod睡眠的时候仍然会使用少量的电流，在不用的时候，视不同的温度而定，ipod会在14到28天里面电量放完。
2、不使用背景灯和eq会延长电池使用时间。
3、避免频繁的改变歌曲。因为ipod的工作原理是一次性读入大概32M连续的数据到缓存当中，然后硬盘停止，使用缓存播放。如果你频繁的改变歌曲，硬盘就要频繁的启动。所以我的经验是多使用on-the-go，把想听的歌放到这个列表里（一直按着“决定按键”直到歌曲或者列表闪动）。
4、使用压缩的歌曲。由于上面的原因，当你使用体积小的歌曲是一次性读入的歌曲会多一些。也就是这个原因使得播放wav文件时非常耗电。我的经验是压缩cd时就用128k的aac文件，这个时候音质和体积有一个最佳的尺度（1分钟1M）。我这个烂耳朵反正是听不出来和cd的差别。：）当然下载的音乐就谈不上这一点了。我靠！打字真累。

The iPod battery indicator shows, approximately, how much charge is left in the battery. You may find that the battery indicator shows a charge left, but iPod stops playing because the battery is, in fact, depleted. In some cases, the iPod battery indicator may show less than a full charge after fully charging the iPod for four hours. This does not necessarily mean anything is wrong with your iPod's battery. Follow the steps in this document to determine if your iPod's battery is working correctly.

First, reset the iPod and immediately recheck your battery meter.
Below is a simple test you can use to determine if the battery is functioning properly .
Download and install the latest version of iPod software from Apple Software Downloads (http://www.apple.com/swupdates/).
Open iTunes.
Import the contents of an audio CD that contains average length songs (3 to 8 minutes) using the MP3 Encoder at 160 kbps. See "iTunes 4: How to Choose Import Options" for further details.
Fully charge iPod by connecting it to the Apple iPod Power Adapter, or to your Macintosh computer with built-in FireWire ports using the cable that came with iPod.
Open iTunes and update the contents of your iPod with the songs you just imported.
From iPod's main menu, click Settings, then click Repeat to turn on this feature. Click Backlight Timer, if necessary, to turn off that feature.
Disconnect the FireWire cable from iPod.
Select the album you imported and updated, then select a song to play.
The album should play over and over until the battery is depleted.
Regardless of what the battery status indicator shows:
iPod (with Dock Connector) should play the album for approximately 8 hours.
iPod should play the album for approximately 10 hours.

How long can you expect your battery to last?

Charging it for 3 hours before first use is recommended.
How to best charge the battery?
You should recharge it to full charge regularly, before it has an opportunity to fully discharge.
Does the iPod battery have a memory effect?
No.
What is the difference between charging via FireWire or via AC Adapter?
Many experienced owners always recharge using the AC adapter as opposed to recharging from the FireWire port on their computers because it is quicker.
Is the battery meter inaccurate?
Yes. Users have reported that after fully charging the meter shows only half power. This usually normalizes after a few minutes of use. Also, with the meter on empty, you can get hours of playing time. The meter is thus no true indicator of battery power.
If I don't get 8 hours of battery life, is the iPod defective?
Not necessarily. Battery life varies according to use (menu switching) and individualized settings. Doing a battery test will determine your iPod's performance: load the iPod with enough tracks to play for at least 8 hours. Allow the iPod to play the tracks using the standard settings (no EQ, normal volume, etc.) and without accessing it during this time. The iPod should play for 7-8 continuous hours.
The iPod has a Lithium-ion/ploymer type battery, these commonly are only rated at 300-500 charges; the iPod in my experience has been rated at 500, (you will see why this firgure isn't anything to worry about).
Lithium-ion is a low maintenance battery, an advantage that most other chemistries cannot claim. There is no memory and no scheduled cycling is required to prolong the battery's life. In addition, the self-discharge is less than half compared to nickel-cadmium, making lithium-ion well suited for modern fuel gauge applications. lithium-ion cells cause little harm when disposed.
A lithium-ion battery provides 300-500 discharge/charge cycles. The battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible. Instead, charge the battery more often. There is no concern of memory when applying unscheduled charges.
Some sound advice:
# Avoid full discharges; recharge lithium-ion more often. Repetitive random charge does not harm the battery. There is no memory.
# Keep the lithium-ion battery cool. Avoid a hot car. For prolonged storage, keep the battery at a 40% charge level.
# Avoid purchasing spare lithium-ion batteries for later use. Observe manufacturing date. Do not buy old stock, even if sold at clearance prices.
Some Do's and Don'ts:
#Do charge the battery often. The battery lasts longer with partial rather than full discharges.
#Avoid full cycle because of wear. 80% depth-of-discharge recommended. Re- charge more often. Avoid full discharge. Low voltage may cut off safety circuit.
#No maintenance needed. Loses capacity due to aging whether used or not.
#Store at 40% charge in a cool place. Do not store at full charge and at warm temperatures because of accelerated aging.
How to Charge and When to Charge:
Should I use up all battery energy before charging?
No, it is better to recharge more often; avoid frequent full discharges.
Yes, on batteries with a fuel gauge, allow a full discharge once a month to enable reset
Should I charge my battery partially or fully?
Does not matter. Charging in stages is acceptable. Full charge termination occurs by reading the voltage level and charge current. Charging a full battery is safe and does not cause harm.
Should the battery be kept charged when not in use
Best to store at 40% charge. Cool storage is more important than state-of-charge. Do not fully deplete battery because Li-ion may turn off its protection circuit.
Will the battery heat up during charge?
No, little heating is generated during charge. A large laptop battery may get lukewarm. Do not allow the battery to heat during charge. [If charging the iPod in a dock connected to a PC & if the drive is mounted; the Hard Drive head will still spin, and it will heat up].
What should I know about chargers?
Charger should apply full charge. Avoid economy chargers that advertise one-hours charge. Fastest full-charge time: 2-3 hours.

1、要经常的充电。部分的放电比完全放电使电池的寿命会更长一些；
2、不要完全的充放电，建议80%程度的放电。过低的电压会切断安全电路。
3、在寒冷的地方要保持40%的电力。
如何充电：
1、在充电前我应该用完她的电池吗？
不应该！原因上面说了n次了。但是，每过一个月应该有一次完全的充放电。
2、我应该部分充一部分电还是充满电？
都没有问题。完全的充满电也不会对你的电池造成伤害。
3、当电池不用的时候应该保持充电吗？

A: No, there is nothing wrong with it. It is not fundamentally flawed in any way. Apple products have the lowest incidence of repairs, highest quality, and best support among all manufacturers. Lithium ion batteries have a finite lifetime, and Apple has in place a mechanism to replace them, if needed. The vast majority of iPod owners will never experience any issues with the battery, even under heavy, frequent usage. There is a reason the iPod is the number one portable music player, and the most desirable. There are engineering tradeoffs for each design decision made; Apple is continuously working to make the iPod better. Other manufacturers of small, best-of-breed hard drive-based players also use integrated, lithium ion batteries in the same way.

平心而论，有两个电子产品让我为之心动！一个是高中时候买的gameboy，那个时候还没有彩屏机，是第一代那种，我完她简直是玩疯了！为她省吃俭用，她陪着我一个人读过多少个时光！从机器人大战2到三国到史克威尔的时空之旅……现在我同样把如此高的评价用在ipod上面！买回来后我经常一个人的把她拿出来放在手上看，真是叫艺术品！我也变得更喜欢听歌，我是为了用她才听歌的，而不是为了听歌才用她。所以，没有其他播放器能取代她！各个中文坛子里面总是有人拿她跟其他机器做对比，但是在我眼里都是低级无聊的讨论。我的耳朵不是金耳朵，我听音乐的环境也不是安静的听音室，我从来不听收音机，我讨厌cd的巨大，我讨厌md录歌曲的麻烦，（这里就不说我抵制日货了，等我清完那些sony的垃圾（为了一个什么中文线控你看sony有多卑鄙！）后我就干净了）。我需要的是一个外形唯美，容量巨大（我的所有cd都在里面，按照苹果推荐的128kps的aac来转换，每首歌5分钟，每张cd16首歌曲计算15g的大概可以装187张cd——再也不要拿md和我比了），操作随心所欲（她的触摸盘只有用过才知道什么感觉），与众不同的播放器！就象第一代gameboy有很多缺点一样，ipod也同样有不少缺点，但是爱一个东西就要爱她的全部！我所用过的所有随身听都没有给我过这种感觉，这也就是我乐于花这么多时间写这篇文章的原因。TMD，关于sony我还有一大堆话要说，就不在这里玷污ipod的圣土了。
